Fwd: Garden waste bags

Dear Ms Gayle

Thank you for your email.

I don't know where to begin.

"Unfortunately, as a result of pending changes which are set to occur due to Lambeth’s commitment to a new waste management strategy to take us up to 2031. We are currently unable to supply residents with any new reusable garden waste bags."

Am I supposed to be impressed that Lambeth has a waste strategy to take it forward to 2031? What does that mean? I can assure you that 2031 will come along whether you collect my garden waste or not.

That entire sentence is quite astounding. I have now read it six times and each time I marvel at it more.

I have so many, many questions but let's start with "Why should plans for a new strategy to be implemented from 4th April (I refer to Ms Bourke's email) prevent you from picking up garden waste now?"

Congratulations on "joining up with Straight Plc who are currently able to supply Lambeth residents with compost bins at reduced prices" but I don't really have room for a compost heap in the handkerchief sized patio behind my midt-terrace house and if I did it wouldn't really be appropriate with my eccentric requirements which are principally to get rid of eight bags of grapevine leaves once a year towards the end of January.

It's encouraging to know that I can dispose of my garden waste "in one of our reuse and recycling centres which can be found in West Norwood, Battersea and Wandsworth". I try to minimise my environmental impact so I'm afraid I don't run a car but I will certainly look into which buses run to these locations and perhaps someone from Lambeth can give me a hand getting the bags on the bus or failing that I'm sure the bus driver will.

Perhaps I should just dump the garden waste instead? That seems to be more in keeping with Lambeth's radical new waste policy. Actually I won't, but I am sure lots of other people will be doing just that. Or stuffing the waste into bins so that it ends up in landfill.
