The petition opposing the Wheatsheaf's application for a late licence is on its way to Lambeth Licensing. Thanks to everyone who trudged the streets seeking signatures and, of course, to everyone who signed.
Change of application
Te licensing officer at Lambeth Council tells me that in the meantime, following correspondence with the Noise Officer, the pub has reduced the number of hours for which it is applying.
The applicant has agreed to the following;
For the provision of regulated entertainment, provision of entertainment facilities, provision of late night refreshment and the supply of alcohol from Sunday to Thursday until 00:30 hours and from Friday to Saturday until 03:00 hoursIn addition, in order to prevent the undermining of The Prevention of Public Nuisance Objective the following conditions have been agreed;Doors and windows to be closed after 21:00 hours if regulated entertainment is provided, except for access and egress. That collection of refuse and bottles and deliveries shall take place between 08:00hrs and 21:00hrs.
As far as I'm concerned, 3am is still too late.
Current licence
Some people have asked what the current licence allows for in terms of supply of alcohol. The answer is:
Friday & Saturday 10:00 - 01:00Monday - Thursday 10:00 - 00:00Sunday 12:00 - 23:00

What next?
As objections have been raised there will be a hearing for the application. This will probably take place on 7th December (to be confirmed shortly).
Committee hearings are usually held on Tuesdays 7pm at the Town Hall.
We have been advised that it's extremely advantageous to get as many people as possible to attend this meeting. More to follow...
The hearing will be held on December 21st. I can't make it; would anyone like to represent me?
ReplyDeletePersonally I support this license application. The Wheatsheaf is on a main road. Yes, there's housing nearby but this is London - there are always houses nearby. It's not like they are asking to turn the Albert into a nightclub. As much as we need to preserve our area, we also need to encourage business development and employment
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with radar.
ReplyDeleteHaving so many 24 hrs clubs right on our door step (the whole of vauxhall station is surrounded by them) won't for sure change a thing for residents around here. As long as they keep it quiet as they promised we won't be affected.
I run a business of the same sort in west London and i know that these extra hours they are asking for will help if not save their business as well as their staff's jobs.
Happy new year !!!
Radar, I'm not sure that we necessarily need to preserve our local area at any cost, but as a resident I'd mostly like to see it getting nicer for residents. I don't feel i need to support a business that isn't aimed at or employing local residents, but if you have data that suggests the clientele and employees are local to the area and that this meets a local need, rather than the financial ambitions of the owner, then I would be in favour of it.
