Something different at Rebato's

From The Londonist:

Campo Viejo's Viva el Vino campaign at Rebato's Wine & Tapas Bar has diners choosing their wine without deciding what to eat and then being presented with a selection of food matched to their chosen wine... Rebato's hosts the Viva el Vino promo until the 15th of February with a £22.50/person Menu Uno featuring four red wines paired with food and a £32.50/person Menu Dos which includes eight (bubbly and non-bubbly) glasses of red, white, rosé with paired dishes.

Rebato's is at 169 South Lambeth Road.

  1. We decided to give the "Viva el Vino" menu a try Friday night. It was enjoyable, but eight meat-based courses became a bit heavy and the wine pairings were somewhat uninspired. By the time the last plate arrived, I felt my stomach clench at the prospect of more food. They could have cut it down with a sprinkling of veg here and there. Serving Tarta de Santiago almond cake for dessert seemed insensitive - at this point a sorbet gone better. To be fair, we should have heeded the waiter's warning and ordered one vegetarian option.

One red wine tastes about like another after so much garlic, so the subtle differences between a Campo Viejo Crianza and a Campo Viejo Reserva were lost on me.

The experience served to remind me that Rebato's is one of the best restaurants in the neighbourhood. However, you're better advised to order for yourself and pick a bottle you like.
