Amended diary date: Stockwell Lidl opens 29 November or 3 October 2013

I know you want to know. In all my years of writing this blog I don't think I've been asked anything as often as I've been asked this. So here you go....

Stockwell News reports that the new Stockwell branch of Lidl is due to open on Friday 29 November 2013.

Update: Lambeth Weekender tweets that the store will open on 3rd October 2013:

  1. I think its a bit sad that Stockwell gets a Lidl and loses a theatre. I wonder if the guys at Lidl who were so keen to have the advert on the blog would like to comment on what investment (beyond jobs - which are obviously valuable) they'll be bringing to the area. Arts-funding for a new theatre maybe?

On a related note, there used to be a lovely Italian deli on the corner of South Lambeth Road and Thorne Road, then a CostCutter, then Naz's Food and Wine, and now nothing...do you have any idea of what might be going there. We heard it was going to be a Tesco Local next (great!) but it just seems to be going empty (even worse!)

    1. we all want to have lovely local delis and small shops on our streets. Only problem is that we do most of our shopping at supermarkets. These little shops will not manage to live out of LIKES on Facebook or sales of potato crisps.
Same story is for local theatre concept.

Btw: Naz Food and Wine was very very average cornershop with bored guys behind the counter.

    2. Yeah, dunno, we're losing a theater I never went to and gaining a supermarket I may sometimes. Sounds like a win. And what's with the whingeing for businesses to stump up donations? They bring a service people will use, employ some people, pay rates locally and VAT and corporate tax nationally. That's a pretty big contribution to society.
