Bye bye Old Bread Factory; hello A Tasca

What a shame. The bakery on the corner of Wilcox Road is to become.... wait for it... a tapas bar!

Whoo hooo! That's what the area has been crying out for - more tapas.

To be fair, it will also be a pizzeria which - if they are good pizzas - will be a bonus.

But I did like their bread.

Also be happy it is in Wilcox road and not just around the corner.

    I liked their bread too!

  2. I hadn't even gotten around to trying the bread since the renovation. Too bad.

How is it possible that so many identical, mediocre tapas+karaoke bars and off-license shops have enough custom to stay in business, yet not one bakery can survive and the pubs are in trouble? I often moan about the lack of diversity in our local shops, but what sort of businesses do you think the neighbourhood would actually support?

  3. You got me there, Matt. The economics of the South Lambeth Road defy explanation.

As you say, it's a shame we can't support a bakery. We used to have a hardware shop which was rather handy. Thanks goodness we still have a pharmacy and a dry cleaners.

  4. maybe having a big sainsburys so close by draws away demand for specialists.

actually i'd quite like a smaller sainsburys/ tesco even closer by too - perhaps in the place of one of the special brew vendors.
