I'd hate for this to become a single issue blog but it's just exasperating, isn't it? Yesterday the road looked like a rubbish dump which is what it is, I suppose.
I'm going to set up a meeting with one of the councillors so if you would like to add your voice please leave a comment on this post or you can send me a direct message on Twitter - @AndrewOrange (Matt, David - I'll make sure you're invited, obviously).
Thank you all for your efforts. I have also been independently filling in the online fly tipping complaint form on the Lambeth Council website. It appears that all your efforts have led to a tidier end of the street tonight. But one of the commercial bins appears to have been moved down the road and hidden round the corner outside number 20. If you are in touch with the council again, can you please mention this. I will do the same. Please let us know how it goes with the councillor and if you need moral support.
ReplyDeleteHi Julian. Thanks for your comments. A group of about 8 residents had a meeting with Councillor Pete Bowyer on Saturday and we got a lot off our chests. As soon as we hear back from him we'll post about it on here.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things that came up was the idea of forming a Residents Association. Watch this space.

ReplyDeleteThe latest updates on the rubbish situation are:
ReplyDelete1 - Councillor Bowyer wrote a very supportive e-mail to Streetcare. Streetcare responded to say "notices have already been served [...] requiring the bins to be relocated to appropriate locations on South Lambeth Road." Also, unfortunately, the Streetcare official who has been in contact with us is leaving.
2 - Separately, Streetcare responded to our "Stage 2 Complaint" about the rubbish, proposing a meeting to discuss what actions had been taken so far. Sounds like a job for The Residents Association!
3 - The broken PHS bin seems to be gone for good. A shop manager at the corner told me they were given permision to leave bins out between the hours of 22.00 and 08.30 (I'd like to know more details). In any case, the corner is looking a lot more tidy in the last few days.
