Tram plan goes off the rails

So, no cross-river tram.

  • And no tram in Oxford Street.
  • And no DLR extension
  • And no Crystal Palace tram.

Oh well.

So what is your transport plan, Boris?

Well, the extra £60 million a year in operating costs incurred by ditching the bendies, and the £50 million a year lost in revenue from the planned cuts the Western Congestion Charge zone have to come from somewhere...

I know times are tough, but when funds can be found for projects that are almost bordering on classification as vanity / ideological projects, but no funds can be found for critical projects, it's beggars belief.

Boris talks about helping cut crime - how about helping communities help themselves? The Cross River Tram was due to cost £455m (nowhere near the £1.3bn that Boris is now coming up with), and would have helped improve transport links to some of London's most deprived communities, improving accessibility to jobs.
