Round up of local stuff

Here you go:

  • The SE11 Lurker goes to the KOV forums so you don't have to. Updates on Kylun & 8 Albert Embankment here...
  • ... and more on the "co-operative" council's shafting of the dreams of the community over the future of the Beaufoy Institute here.
  • With somewhat ronic timing, Labour in Lambeth has published a draft "manifesto" for VNEB pledging that they “will ensure that the necessary infrastructure and public services will be provided for local residents affected by the developments.” There's even mention of libraries! Go figure.
  • A cyclist was injured in a nasty accident at Vauxhall Cross yesterday. "Police said a male cyclist was critical after being hit by a lorry in Vauxhall. Witnesses told how his bicycle was dragged along the road by the HGV before the driver realised what had happened."
  • Yesterday (20th Sept) was the 11th anniversary of the day that an anti-tank missile was fired at the MI6 headquarters at Vauxhall Cross, causing minor damage to the eighth floor. The Real IRA was later blamed for the attack. They used a Soviet RPG-22 Netto one-shot disposable anti-tank rocket launcher. BBC News report here.

Dam I passed both of those accidents yesterday. That spot on the Aldwych is a death trap. I wonder if it was the same 243 driver who tried to run me off the road at Waterloo bridge and again at the exact spot that cyclist came down. I was told he was disciplined and given some training. The buses race past you as a cyclist and then immediately cut in in front only to stop. It is ridiculous. Just this morning a 1 turned out as far as it could and I had to stop or it woudl have knocked me into the pavement as it raced past and cut in front. The accident at vauxhall was horrific that was the biggest lorry I think I've every seen in the inner city. Sdeems odd to me that the cyclist is reported undertaking a bus stopping at a bus stop sounds more like the bus overtook and cut him off. But how would I know I wasn't there.
