Fentiman Road pedestrian crossing news

Good news via Malika who has been onto local Councillors and TfL's London Streets to find out whatever happened to the once-mooted pedestrian crossing for Fentiman Road at the junction of South Lambeth Road.

The councillors responded to say they would chase it up, and this is what Malika subsequently heard from London Streets:
A design for an improved crossing facility at this location is currently being progressed. The project is currently subject to a review of the impact to traffic movements through the junction. Should the outcome of this review be acceptable, the scheme will then progress to the implementation stage shortly.

The duration of the remaining elements leading up to implementation would be approximately three months, therefore we would anticipate that the implementation process may commence in early 2011.
As Malika says: "It sounds as though things are underway which is good news."

Great stuff.

  1. about time too. A couple of years ago they replaced the lights, which would have been a fantastic opportunity for a pedestrian crossing to be introduced.

  2. Hear hear - pedestrians get too short shrift around South Lambeth.

And what a lovely photo - the southwest gate of Vauxhall Park before it was smashed and boarded over like a derelict tenement... and then not repaired by the council for months on end.
