Battle of the blogs and bye bye to onion bag blog

As most of you will know, the man who has single-handedly been holding Lambeth Council to account for the last X years is leaving London for the mellower climes of Wivenhoe in Essex.

I'm ashamed to say that I've never gotten around to meeting OBB aka Onion Bag Blog aka Jason Cobb aka Tricky Skills Jase. But next Thursday is the time to correct that.

For I hereby announce a combined Send-Off and Battle of the Local Blogs (& Associations) Quiz on Thursday 30th September 2010 at the Wheatsheaf (126 South Lambeth Road, London, SW8 1RB) at 7.30pm for the 8pm quiz.

Yes, it's quiz night. I challenge each of the local blogs/associations to come up with one or two teams of no more than five people per team. Yes OBB, Viva Vauxhall, Stockwell News, ASSA and Lurking About SE11 - I'm looking at youze all for instance. Friends of Parks or Civic Societies welcome too.

The Wheatsheaf will reserve tables so that we are all near each other and the quiz master Shaun has agreed to incorporate one round on "local knowledge" just to add piquancy.

So, what you need to do:

1. Add a comment to this post to let everyone know you are participating.
2. Email me at andreworange [at] gmail.com to let me know how many teams you are getting together (max: 5 people per team).
3. Assemble said team(s) from your local blog / association / street / whatever.
4. Turn up, drink too much, win or lose and wish OBB the best of luck for his retirement.

If you don't have a blog or association, you can just get people together from your street and enter as a street or a building or anything. I'm not fussy as long as everyone lives locally.

May the best team win... Gentlemen, choose your weapons etc etc

  2. Me too

    Who is setting the questions?

  3. Why? Do you want to nobble them? Bribe them? Probably the quizmaster although I've promised him that if he needs help I will find him someone unaffiliated to suggest some questions. Or failing that I'll supply them and not participate.

  4. PS. For anyone confused... Bathsheba is Stockwell News.

  5. In my team...

    @mazlaws, @garethwyn, @markvauxhall (later in the evening) @darryl1974, @AnnaJCowen and *possibly* @FreeSouthLondon.

    Blimey.

Teams from @OneEyeGrey, @BrixtonBlog and @labourstockwell (cripes) also invited.

  6. Brilliant. But please note. Maximum of FIVE people per team. You can submit as many teams as you like though.

  7. Ok, Lurking about SE11 is in.

I'll probably bring friends from outside the area, since Jason has already stolen most local Twitter people for his team ;)

  8. Oh, I couldn't see it on the post, but what time is it all likely to kick off?

  9. It's a 7.30 meet for an 8pm start.

Jason is greedy and has too many people. Let's make him share.

  10. I can't get there until 8:30 / 9:00 due to work commitments - but if Team Cobb is full, I'm happy to bolster any undersized teams when I do eventually arrive.

If OBB's team is full, maybe we should stage a coup, kick Jason out and make him fight for victory on his own.

    (As a soon to be 'out-of-towner' it's probably a good time to re-learn self-sufficiency)

    Mind you...imagine if he wins...

    Looking forward to it

  12. Onion Bag is leaving. Oh deary me ... that pub on the corner of Dorset Road must be delirious. Folk will start glugging there with holes in their socks. Be nice if he took the 3 U.S. Stockwell Ward Councillors with him.
