"Call that a pineapple?" and other Vauxhall stuff

The new Vauxhall Society newsletter is out and contains this QI-style correction to readily spouted "knowledge"
Look at the columns on Lambeth Bridge, and what is the fruit you see on top?

Pineapple, according to nearby tourist noticeboards.

“Not so,” says the Garden Museum. “They’re pine cones. Pine cones are anciently a symbol of just about everything good – abundance, luck and Venus, Goddess of Love. Pineapples? Friendship and hospitality."
So there you go. If that alone is not worth the price of membership I don't know what is. So go and join up today.
