Eating at the Canton Arms

I'm a vegetarian but there are are only three things that I dislike food-wise: okra, chicory and fennel so it was unfortunate that Friday's vegetarian main course at the Canton Arms on South Lambeth Road was risotto with chicory and fennel.

Undeterred from my task of sampling the newly re-opened pub's fare I opted for two starters - one with beetroots and one with mozarella. I can report that they were both gloriously delicious.

My non-veg companions tried the belly-pork (tasty and a good sized portion) and the Arbroath Smokie (tasty, but strangely served without any sides - not quite a meal in itself).

The staff were friendly and welcoming.

We were surprised that a main course, a drink and the tip came to £15 each but perhaps we were overzealous with the gratuity. Possibly we were overwhelmed with gratitude at a TV-free, tapas-free dining opportunity in the South Lambeth Road.

There's a review at Dos Hermanos here (via Stockwell News).

  1. Sounds like an ambitious menu for a pub - good to see you enjoyed it, I must give it a try.

Tangentially, okra is one of my favorite vegetables.
