Where have all the flowers gone? And other environmental issues

Where have all the flowers gone?

One should ask Lambeth Council, I suspect.

In a presumably well-intentioned attempt at tidying up Tradescant Road someone has removed the flowers which residents had lovingly planted around the trees to cheer the place up.

Admittedly the blooms were a little past their best, but sometimes it really does feel like two steps forward and two steps back, doesn't it?

In happier news: the domestic bin for 123A South Lambeth Road which attracted so much rubbish to the street has been removed so a big thanks to Lambeth for sorting that out.

We're optimistic that the last of the commercial bins will disappear from the north tine of Tradescant Road soon and I understand that there are plans also to address the other domestic bins currently housed on the street. Can't wait.

Sadly we didn't get enough people to commit to the Community Freshview we were planning for August but maybe we can try again in the autumn when people are less busy.

  1. I'm really bummed about the flowers myself. Maybe if I ever get some time, will look into replacing them. On the upside, there is a clean canvas to start with.

  2. By the way - does anyone have some suggestions for what kind of planting might do well in these little patches of dirt? Some grass or a discrete groundcover? Lavender (obviously one of my favorites)? It has to be pretty hardy to survive in such a sunny, dry spot.

  3. Lavendar sounds good. Even the council couldn't mistake that for weeds. Could it?

Is it reasonably tolerant of dog urine?

  4. Well, it was a bit late in the year for lavendar, so I got the last one of those and whatever else was on sale at B&Q. Better than a patch of dirt? You be the judge.

I find this very ironic... They ripped up the flowers on a road named after a fairly famous 17th century gardener...
