Neighbourhood Cleanup

If you fancy mingling with our slightly more upmarket neighbours then tomorrow (Saturday 14th July) would be an ideal opportunity.

The good burghers of the Albert Square and Saint Stephen's Association are holding a Neighbourhood Cleanup day:
Saturday 14th February 10.00 - 2.00 centred around the Sculpture and the Church, but we can do the wider area too. Come with your ideas for the area - the Council will provide the tools - and skips for rubbish and green waste. Meet by the Sculpture at 10.00 - tell your friends.

Apparently it is supported by Lambeth Council as part of its Community Freshview scheme which sounds interesting:

If you are a resident that has plenty of ideas on improving your local environment and you can gather some volunteers to help make an extra difference to your neighbourhood, then you could be eligible for our help under the Community Freshview scheme.

Whether it's brightening up an area of local green space, giving a facelift to disused areas of land, or any other activity that would improve your local environment, we can help you with equipment, expertise and an extra pair of hands.

We will provide you with everything you need, including at least two of our officers, to help make your clean-up day a success. We will consider any ideas that you bring to us as long as your activity will help to renew your sense of pride in your local area.

Contact us to tell us your idea on 020 7926 0524 or email streetcare@lambeth.gov.uk.

Anyone got any ideas? I can't think of anything that doesn't involve either cleaning out people's front gardens or painting their front doors for them (neither of which are you probably allowed to do without their consent).

I suppose we could clear up the litter from the bins at the end of the street which but it would be a bit pointless as it would be back before the day was out.

Any ideas?

  1. Indeed - the cleanup Tradescant Road really needs is getting rid of those commercial bins at the corner. I've written a lot of e-mails to Streetcare and our Councillor Imogen Walker about this, neither of whom is interested in lifting a finger, let alone "help you with equipment, expertise and an extra pair of hands". Alas. One of these days I'll find the time to put more effort into it.
