Just to say that we were delighted to find that Luigi Di Lieto, formerly of the Di Lieto family bakery on the South Lambeth Road, is back.
And so is his brother Giovanni.
Luigi is running ITALO, a delightful new Italian deli in Bonnington Square.
ITALO is on the corner with Vauxhall Grove at 13 Bonnington Square SW8 1TE (map) (07590 609 590).
The deli is open from 9.30 am to 8.30 pm Monday to Friday and 9.30 am to 6 pm on Saturdays.
As well as coffee (Espressos 90p), Luigi’s doing sandwiches and takeaways: on the day we looked in, you could have Penne alla Matriciana, Parmigiana alla Melanzane and (for vegetarians) Rigatoni alle Melanzane.
Luigi’s brother Giovanni is helping out at ITALO’s for a while, and if one piece of good news isn’t enough, he is preparing to reopen the family bakery early in the New Year.
This time, the Di Lieto bakery will be at the junction of Brixton Road and South Island Place.

Return of the Di Lietos
From Ross Davies via Neil Sanders:
Q. What is missing from our lives?
ReplyDeleteA. A little love on a plate...
Now it has arrived in spades in Bonnington Square in the shape of Italo Deli - the love child of Luigi di Lieto and Charlie Boxer, with Frank Boxer chef de cuisine...
Tonight I had one of those sublime moments, coming home late to an empty fridge, and the realisation that all I had to do was go to Italo. The icy rain was lashing outside, the dish of the day was lentils, watercress and poached egg. What could be more perfect than this as a take out for 2, with a bottle of great Chat. du Pape. It was brilliantly cooked, the perfect dish for the weather, and so beautifully balanced and I hate to say it, healthy too... I will not talk about value for money, or this place, which is my little secret, might just be inundated with customers. I am truly blessed to be a resident of the square, and have not only the famous boho veggie cafe, but this great deli (carnivores catered for) too....
Viva Italo!

Hi there,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to tell all local residents groups about the new online delivery service offered by mine and luigi di lieto's new shop at Bonnington Square.
Because parking is a little difficult around Bonnington Square, and because the new shop is out of walking distance for many of Di Lieto's old customers, we are offering a free delivery service, for orders placed over the phone or on the internet, at www.italodeli.co.uk
I thought your members might be interested, best wishes, Charlie
